I've added a simple webform to the homepage that allows you to send me an email right from the browser. I've also added Bruce Blog to the blogroll.

I am now a part of the "No AI Webring"! The links, now found in the footer of every page, are currently functional. I opted to go with plain HTML instead of an image-based widget in order to keep the site light and fast.
For those unaware, like I was before starting this blog, a webring is a trend from the early days of the Internet, wherein sites would link to each other in a ring of links, such that if you continued down the chain you'd eventually end up back where you started. I'd encourage readers to use this webring to discover new places on the smallweb! Another great resource for this is my blogroll.
In related news, I added Cascading Space to the blogroll.

I came across a response to my recent blog post by The Least Fractious Thoat. I've put my response here to avoid cluttering Bear's feed, and my own archive, with a short-form rebuttal.
The most relevant part of Thoat's response to me is this:
Yes, actually, it is rude as fuck to come at an internet stranger with a scathing critique of their mediocre prose in a blog post they made to vent about their crappy day at work. You are not their editor, you are not their professor, you are not even their audience. You do not have a "duty" to snipe at people. Sometimes it is okay - nay, even correct - to just shut up and enjoy your intellectual superiority or whatever.
This sort of response is always disappointing to me, because it signals that either Thoat did not fully digest my arguments, or I failed to communicate them effectively. In my post, I had already addressed the claims that Thoat makes here, namely that publishing a response to someone constitutes an imposition upon them; that a piece of writing is above reproach or shielded from critique by virtue of its subject matter; that people who are "not the [intended] audience" are forbidden, morally speaking, from responding; and that criticism is inherently destructive and "rude."
Thoat has merely restated a handful of points, without further development, that were already addressed in full.
My guess is that, should Thoat come across this response, they would argue that I am missing the point, and that they didn't write the above quoted text to serve as a refutation at all, and only wrote it to express their thoughts on the matter. Fortunately for me, this idea is also addressed in my original post. To summarize: It's fine if you didn't intend for your post to be a piece of formal argumentation. You are free to write whatever you want for whatever purpose, and so am I. I enjoy engaging with ideas this way, and it's okay if you do not. There is room in the space for both of us, and neither of us is imposing upon the other.

So apparently Discord is soon moving to reintroduce age verification. Thankfully, all of my most important contacts are on board with jumping ship, but I'm not optimistic that all of the resources I use will do likewise.

As someone who doesn't like a lot of jelly on peanut butter and jelly sandwiches, it's pretty wack how much worse they are when you just forego the jelly entirely.
